We are delighted to announce the recipients of this year's UHIMSS Scholarship, recognizing exceptional individuals who have demonstrated unwavering dedication and significant contributions to the dynamic field of Health IT and Informatics.

Usman Sattar
Usman Sattar is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Utah. A physician turned informatics enthusiast, Usman's transformative journey began during clinical rotations in the U.S. as a foreign medical student in 2011. Despite facing challenges, his global experiences, including working with a U.S.-based EHR vendor and pursuing a Master's in Health Informatics in Pakistan, underline his fervor for health IT innovations.
Professional Contributions: Usman aims to re-enter the health IT industry, specifically in AI or Digital Health product management. His current Ph.D. research aims to enhance the integration and evaluation of artificial intelligence in clinical decision support systems. Actively engaged in the Salt Lake City ecosystem, Usman contributes to events and initiatives such as Biohive, Silicon Slopes, and Utah HIMSS, reflecting his commitment to shaping the future of health IT.
Huong Tran
Huong Tram is a master’s student in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Utah, concurrently serving as a pathology assistant at Salt Lake Regional Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Having earned her undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice and Forensic Science from Weber State University, Huong's early years were marked by a proactive pursuit of programming languages like R and Python to enhance her ability to analyze healthcare data.
Looking ahead, Huong is committed to contributing to Electronic Health Record (EHR) optimization and improving healthcare efficiency. The UHIMSS scholarship represents a significant milestone in her journey, offering both financial support and invaluable professional connections essential for her advancement in the field of Biomedical Informatics.
